LAKE PLACID / NORTH ELBA DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

YEARLY REPORT FOR 2014

ACCOMPLISHED IN 2014

  • Final Adoption of the Comprehensive Plan-   August 2014
  • Finalized Grant process – Thanks to volunteers the plan was written at no cost to the taxpayers of North Elba / Lake Placid
  • Ad Hoc Committees created for 2015 initiatives:
  • Historic Preservation Group- working toward designating North Elba an Historic Community
  • Welcome Wagon Group- Investigating the possibility of a Welcome Reception for new members of the community
  •  Rental Permit Group Created- Will investigate establishing a rental permit system for short term (vacation) rentals
  • Efficiency Study Group Created- Will investigate the implications of consolidating Village and Town Government Functions
  • Environmental Group – Will work toward reducing the amount of salt used on roadways
  • Trail Connections Group- Will work with Cornell University students toward integration of the are trail network

PLAN IMPLEMENTATION BY OTHER AGENCIES

  • ORDA Advisory Board – created by Town of North Elba
  • Bike Racks – Rotary of Lake Placid procured 5 bike racks. The Mobility Committee worked with them to determine proper placement
  • Historical Society Walking Tour – The North Elba – Lake Placid Historical Society was the lead agency.
  • Lake Placid Central School Strategic Plan – Their Strategic Planning Initiative adopted components of the Comprehensive Plan

MEMBERSHIP:

  • Jean Brennan and Bill Borzilleri resigned from the Commission
  • Request appointment of Mavis Miller- Term will expire end of 2018
  • Request appointment of Board Liaisons- Art Devlin – Village Board
