Lake Placid/North Elba Community Development Commission

Land Use Code Review Begins

Land Use Code Review Begins

The Town Board of North Elba and the Village Board of Lake Placid have established a steering committee to organize a review of the Town of North Elba/Village of Lake Placid Zoning Code and recommend revisions. The last major changes to the code occurred in 2011, when new provisions incorporated principles of smart growth, encouraged affordable housing, enhanced environmental protections and streamlined the permit processes.

Since 2011, the Village and Town have amended the code several times. The most recent amendment added a provision regarding short-term rentals. The purpose of the revision initiative is to ensure all code provisions are consistent with the recent short-term rental amendment. It will also incorporate recommendations of the Community Housing Needs Assessment related to the need for additional affordable and workforce housing in the community as well as address other community concerns regarding land use and development.

The Land Use Code Review Committee is composed of individuals with firsthand knowledge of the current code, land use planning professionals from the community, Village and Town Code Enforcement Officers, and members of the Village and Town Boards.

A professional consultant will be brought in to assist the process.

The public can follow the project through updates on this website. It is also possible to submit comments to the committee via email to LUCreview@northelba.org.
